SIsterlocked & Lovin' It

Today was my first full day as a sisterlocked sistah and all I can say is I wish I had known about this natural hair management system sooner!! I probably would have locked years ago! I received my first comments along with a hypnotic gaze and hand reaching out to touch my hair while out today. The comments and questions were:

1. Your hair is so cute, I love it.
2. Wow, I like your hair.
3. What is it?
4. Did they add hair?

I'm sure this is only the beginning of the questions and stares and I welcome them all! I put soft twist rollers in my hair today to achieve the look in the pics here.

On a side note, my husband has been with me through all of my hair phases. From the first time I did the big chop over 6 years ago he was supportive and complimentary , even when I was unsure that I'd made the right decision. I love that he loves my hair and has always been in my corner. I asked him if he wanted to run his fingers through my hair and he said he wasn't sure if I wanted him to mess it up, LOL. I told him no problem, I can just shake it back into place. :-) He's lovin' sisterlocks too! Thanks, babe ;-)

IT'S OFFICIAL

I returned for my final sections of locks last night at 10pm and my consultant completed the process at 12:19am this morning. So, my offical Sisterlock'versary is August 30, 2009! Notice the picture with the comb. This was my last unlocked strand and the last time I will ever need to use one of those :-)...oh yeah, I never used one anyway! Ready for the journey to commence!

Day 4 Iof nstall

So I cannnot keep my hands out of my hair or stop glancing at myself everytime I pass a mirror, LOL. I spent 3.5 hours with my consultant today and she is almost done! As I drove home this morning, with the windows down, my hair blew free and I enjoyed the feel of the wind breezing through my scalp. It's the little things :-) The back of my hair is very long and seems to have a longer curl pattern than the middle more dense sections of my hair. When I looked at it from the side after I got home, everything just seemed flat, so I wanted to try the curls to get some volume and uniformity of length for now. I even wondered if I should cut the back, but decided I should wait and see how they respond to the locking process. I know that my hair will become fuller in the coming months and realize I just have to be patient. The remainder of my unlocked hair is at the back nape on both sides and my consultant will complete it later today!!

Day 3 Install

My consultant is doing a great job and I am loving my hair! This is the result of 11.5 hours of her diligent work today. Rock on. There a few sections in the back to complete tomorrow, after which I can officially announce my born date! Peace, Love and Sisterlocks :-)

SISTERLOCKS INSTALL BEGINS TODAY

After 4 hours, I have my first set of sisterlocks, about 50, and I have already put the curlers in for the night to see how it will look! I'm so excited about being able to style my hair with ease and in something other than a puff! The installation continues over the next couple of days and I will keep the blog posted with updated pics of the progression! I am feeling even more confident today that this is the second best decision, next to my decision to go natural 6 years ago, I've made for my hair. Stay tuned.....

Wash2 - Pre-Install

2 more weeks until my installation! I plan to color this week or weekend. The sample locks in the top are staying well. I haven't noticed any slippage in that area at all because of the tighter/kinkier texture I'm sure. The ones at the hairline have held on pretty well also. I'm sure these are the ones that will be problem children because of the finer texture. The ones on the back/side are varied. I've noticed slippage in some. There is one in particular in that bundle that has held on really tight.

Sample Locks & Overall Texture & Length Shots Post First Wash - Pre-Install

So, I have decided to take the plunge and get sisterlocks™. After 6 years of being natural, I have gone through many stages, phases and relationships with my hair. I have done the big chop, which by the way I love(very short - no maintenance) and was tempted to do one last time pre sisterlocks™ installation, fro, twists and puffs. I've pretty much come to a point where I am a little exhausted with my hair and with a new addition to the family, I just don't have time to do what it takes to achieve some of the looks and styles I'd like with my natural hair. I've always loved the look of locked hair, be it traditional or other and after researching and admiring the growth, beauty and stylability of sisterlocks™, I have made the decision and am looking forward to the experience.
